Classification and Model Selection Guide of Pressure Sensitive Paper

22 Sep, 2026
Pressure sensitive paper, or pressure test film, is categorized by measurable pressure ranges and structural types. Correct model selection is critical to obtain reliable test results. The product portfolio covers ultra-low, low, medium, high and ultra-high pressure grades, catering to different load conditions from soft contact clamping to heavy mechanical stamping. Users must select the proper grade according to the estimated peak pressure of their testing scenario.

The two major structural types are two-sheet type and mono-sheet type. Two-sheet pressure sensitive paper consists of a color-forming sheet and a developer sheet. The matte coated sides must face each other during testing. This type is designed for ultra-low and low pressure tests, widely used for gasket sealing inspection and soft material lamination. Mono-sheet film combines two functional layers on one substrate, convenient for medium to high pressure applications such as mold clamping and bolt joint pressure tests.

Many users make mistakes by choosing a pressure grade that is too high or too low. If the pressure is far below the film’s threshold, no visible color will appear. If the load exceeds the upper limit, the whole area turns deep red without distinguishable density difference, losing resolution for pressure comparison. It is recommended to run small pre-tests with sample strips before formal batch measurement.

Besides pressure range, users also need to consider temperature and humidity of working environment. Extreme high temperature or high humidity may affect microcapsule stability and color reaction. Standard pressure sensitive paper is for normal room temperature use, while high-temperature customized versions are available for thermal pressing processes. Roll width and sheet size are also customizable to fit large-format rollers or small precision components.
